Now Accepting New Patients
Dr. Kapur will meet with you over at least two sessions that include:
First session: Gather a comprehensive history of current symptoms, behaviors, and stressors; administration/review of standardized questionnaires.
Between sessions: Gather collateral information (e.g. from parents/caregivers, teachers, therapists/other providers, partners, etc.) via interview or questionnaires. Releases of information will be obtained where necessary.
Second session: Feedback visit to discuss findings and provide family with psychoeducation.
An evidence-based treatment plan that includes recommendations for medications (if appropriate), therapy/referrals, lifestyle changes, potential work or school accommodations, and any labs that may be necessary.
Post evaluation: If the doctor-patient relationship is deemed a good fit, follow up will be scheduled with Dr. Kapur. Otherwise referrals will be provided.
Upon completion of the initial evaluation sessions, care will be established if it is mutually determined that the treating relationship will be a good fit. Only then will Dr. Kapur be considered your psychiatrist.
Dr. Kapur only provides refills for active patients (those that have completed the initial evaluation and a doctor-patient relationship has been established).
This process can take a few weeks. If you require a prescription to be refilled before we establish care, please contact your original prescribing doctor or your primary care physician.
Dr. Kapur is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both general/adult and child/adolescent psychiatry. She is well-versed in assessments across the diagnostic spectrum.
Her specific interests include working with children, adolescents, young adults, and their families for concerns related to depression, anxiety, ADHD, behavioral issues, parent-child relational issues, and common co-morbidities.
Patients with primary/active substance use disorder, psychosis, eating disorders, or high suicidality or other significant safety concerns require specialized care that may be difficult to provide in the telepsychiatry setting. These patients would likely be better suited with in person services.
Dr. Kapur presents all prospective patients with an evidence-based treatment plan, meeting the highest standards of care in the feedback session. This will commonly include therapy, medications, or a combination of the two.
Often, Dr. Kapur’s primary role is using evidence-based medication management to address the biological factors of mental health issues. If medication is considered for your treatment plan, Dr. Kapur will review risks and benefits, as well as address your questions and concerns so that you can make an informed decision.
Dr. Kapur strongly believes in concurrently addressing psychological factors and recommends all her patients engage in some form of therapy. While all medication visits have a therapeutic component, Dr. Kapur is able to take on therapy-only patients that she believes will do well with the modalities she is trained and familiar with, dependent on availability. These modalities include:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Mindfulness/Meditation
Motivational Interviewing
Parent Coaching/Support
Brief Supportive Therapy (this can also be a good bridge while you find a therapist)
Dr. Kapur operates as an out-of-network, cash-only, concierge practice. This allows her to focus entirely on providing personalized, high-quality care without the limitations or time constraints often imposed by insurance companies. By opting for this model, Dr. Kapur can dedicate more time to thorough evaluations, individualized treatment plans, and collaborative care with families, schools, and other providers.
Payment is due at the time of service and a credit card is required on file before the first evaluation. Superbills are provided upon request. A superbill is a detailed receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement if you have out-of-network mental health benefits.
Before scheduling your first appointment, it is recommended you call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask:
Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
What percentage of the fee will be reimbursed?
Is there a deductible I must meet first?
How do I submit a claim for reimbursement?
Choosing an out-of-network, cash-based practice means prioritizing care that is tailored to your needs, free from insurance-driven restrictions. More information about concierge psychiatry can be found here. If you have additional questions about this process, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Dr. Kapur is licensed to see patients only in the state of California. It is required by law that patients are physically present in California for telepsychiatry services.
Dr. Kapur is only seeing patients via telepsychiatry using a HIPAA compliant platform. If state and/or federal laws mandate in-person visits, accommodations will be made accordingly.
If in-person appointments ever become regularly available, this page will be updated.
No, not all issues are appropriate to see via telepsychiatry. Patients with severe symptoms, significant or persistent suicidality or other safety concerns, or those with disorders that require frequent monitoring (e.g. eating disorders, psychosis) are more likely to do well with in person visits. Very young children tend to do better with in person visits, but this can be case by case as it is often parent work that is needed. Dr. Kapur has worked with children as young as 3-4 years old via telehealth.
If you are unsure if you would be a good candidate for telepsychiatry, please reach out.
