My Background
Dr. Kapur is a double board-certified psychiatrist in Adult and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. Born and raised in Northern California, she currently resides in the South Bay with her family and is dedicated to serving the community where she trained and lives. With a Punjabi background and fluency in Punjabi (as well as conversational proficiency in Hindi/Urdu), Dr. Kapur understands the cultural nuances and mental health stigmas that many South Asian families face. She provides judgment-free, culturally competent care, fostering trust and understanding to help families navigate their mental health journey.
My Training
Dr. Kapur completed her Adult Psychiatry Residency at Tulane University and her Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Stanford University. During her time in training, she served in many leadership roles including Chief Fellow. Her training has been well rounded in various settings including Stanford's Mood Disorders Clinic, General Clinic Psychiatry Clinic, Consult/Liaison Psychiatry, and various outpatient therapy cases. These diverse training experiences equipped her with the ability to work with patients with diverse backgrounds and family situations, and tailor treatments that are both patient- and family-centered.
My Approach
Dr. Kapur's areas of expertise include treatment of children, teens, young adults, and their families with ADHD, anxiety, depression, behavioral challenges, and parent-child relational problems. Dr. Kapur approaches mental health with the belief that psychological and biological factors are deeply interconnected and she emphasizes the importance of both therapy and medication as part of a comprehensive, evidence-based treatment plan. Her collaborative philosophy values the insights and experiences of families while actively working with schools, therapists, and other professionals to support each patient's unique needs.
